The Czech Project

In October 1999 the Townshend International School in Hluboka' in The Czech Republic, commissioned Judith to create a sculpture which would serve as an expression of the school's dedication to the principle of a world united as one country with all of mankind as its citizens. Townshend is an English-language residential school with students representing more than 30 different countries.

The result is "World Embracing", (also referred to as "Hands Around the World"), a depiction of seven children from different countries dancing hand-in-hand around a world globe. Simple and direct, it requires no explanation of its message.

This larger-than-life sculpture is the first thing school visitors see as they approach the main building of the new Townsend campus. The sculpture and the new campus were dedicated by Czech President Havel at the end of June, 2001.
