The bronze Hokie Bird in Cassell Coliseum with the mascot

THE VIRGINIA TECH HOKIE BIRD

In the Fall of 2003 Virginia Tech commissioned Judith Damon to create a ten-foot bronze version of its mascot, the "Hokie Bird".

Working in her studio (with a 12-foot ceiling!) at a Roanoke shopping center, Judith enjoyed a dialogue with the big Hokie Bird as well as with fans and alums who came in to watch her work.

The sculpture was installed in Cassell Coliseum on campus in the winter of 2004, and challenges and inspires all who pass by.
